Chocolates - The Good and the Bad

For almost half of a decade chocolate lovers are continuously being told to avoid the delicious things, but new researches have revealed that these are only our misinterpretations regarding the health-related aspects of chocolates. Recently studies on chocolates have foundnd out the many health benefits it provides.

Cocoa, the primary component in chocolates, contains Phytochemicals that are beneficial as they block the arterial damage that is caused by the free radicals. They are also linked with low chances of developing the cardiovascular disease and certain cancers. Chocolates contain Stearic acid, which does not raise the bad cholesterol and dark chocolates have chances of lowering your blood pressure and improving your insulin resistance. Chocolates are a good source of carbohydrates and are an excellent source of quick energy. In army, chocolates are used for a quick energy booster.

Chocolates even contains Tryptophan; one of the chemicals that the brain utilizes to generate serotonin, which has proven to act as an anti-depressant, in addition to bringing out feelings of love or ecstasy. not only does it have physical benefits, but mental ones too!

Researchers have also proved that candy and chocolate eaters live about 1 year more than the ones who do not. Even the Harvard University studies found that the men who eat chocolates regularly live longer than those who abstain. The misconception that chocolates cause acne has been absolutely disproved.

In addition to the above mentioned, cocoa also contains vitamins like E,D, C, B1 and A. It is also known to be the highest natural source of Magnesium. A deficiency of magnesium in one's diet can lead to heart disease, joint problems, hypertension, pre-menstrual tension and diabetes. Cacao powder is a food that carries an abundance of Alkaloids. Alkaloids were considered to be of great medicinal value by many traditional ancestral cultures. Chocolates can also act as a mood booster, just like coffee.

Lastly, but most importantly, never forget to brush your teeth each time you eat chocolates or any other sugary sweet, because it can eventually eat up all your teeth. You may be left with no other choice but only to get the damaged teeth removed.
